On this tour, you’ll explore the fascinating geothermal region of Te Puia, accompanied by a local guide. Te Puia is known for the Pohutu Geyser, which erupts up to 20 times a day, shooting almost 100 feet into the sky. You’ll see Māori carvings and boiling mud pools and water, during the tour.
You’ll get a taste of traditional Māori life with a chance to cook your own lunch in a hāngī pit. To create your lunch box, you can choose from a selection of foods, including chicken, corn, kumara, pumpkin, potato, cabbage, watercress and bread stuffing. You can then place the selected items in a hāngī basket to cook them over an active steam vent. Before ending your tour, you’ll also learn about authentic crafts, with a hands-on weaving tutorial.
